Lake Jones is a cover girl for cutting-edge prosthetic legs, a binge-watcher of Netflix, known to spy on her neighbor through her door’s peephole, and fond of laser games with her hairless cat. She’s also a bit sexually-frustrated.
God bestows a breath of mercy upon her in the form of Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback. But this gift is no stranger. Lake met Cage Monaghan three years earlier.
It was one day. One moment. One kiss that resurrected her dreams of finding love.
His dimpled smile distracts from his imperfections, which include: a love for country music, fishing, and a feline-hating girlfriend.
When life finally gives them their chance, it’s a humorous and heart-wrenching journey to find their place in the world.
"We would be Cage and Lake. We would be unpredictable. We would be reckless. We would give normality the middle finger.”
***This book is a standalone. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that any readers who have not, but may consider, reading the Jack & Jill Series, do so before reading this book. It contains spoilers to Jack & Jill.
“Wow. Nice basement. Or shrine. It really is more of a shrine.”
Cage laughed, taking our luggage into the bedroom. My eyes remained glued to the wall.
“I’m glad you see the humor in it so I won’t feel so bad when I say, ‘Oh. My. God.’ I mean, common sense tells me there has to be a wall behind all these posters and photos, but without that common sense it really does look like the posters and photos are the wall.” I stepped closer, inspecting the non-existent spacing between the frames.
Cage in high school. Cage in college. Cage with Minnesota. Cage receiving award after award. Cage. Cage. Cage.
“My mom is my number one fan.” “No shit. I’d considered taking on the role myself, but clearly I’m way out of my league.” He swept my hair off to one side and kissed my neck, pressing his body to my back. “Have I told you today how beautiful you are?” “No. N-not yet.” I closed my eyes as his hands slid under my shirt, finding their way to my breasts. “You are. You’re so damn beautiful in every way.” His touch made me crazy. The ending of my cycle made me horny. The combination of both made me not care where we were. I turned in his arms. My grin screamed come hither. “Couch, Monaghan.” He quirked a brow. “Don’t make me say it again.” He smirked, taking several steps back before flopping onto the enormous brown sectional. I grabbed one of his tennis shoes and pulled it off and then the other. His socks followed suit. “Can you feel it, Monaghan? You’re getting ready to score again. What if your off-season record surpasses your regular-season record?” I “shrugged off my shirt. His gaze dropped to my chest. “I love when you talk my language.” I slipped off my shoe. Each item of clothing got tossed in a different direction for theatrics. My favorite dimples came out, approving of my strip tease. “Mind if I lose the leg?” I asked. He shook his head. There really were no words to describe how his lack of any sort of reaction made me feel. Not one flinch. Not one nervous glance at my leg. Not one second of hesitation. It was as if I asked whether we could listen to music while having sex. Cage didn’t see my disability. He found every version of me sexy. I found my heart hurting from the fear that someday he would look at me and think “Holy, shit! You’re missing part of your leg.” With equal flair, I tossed my leg over the back of the couch and straddled his waist in just my black bra and panties. “I think we can be honest with each other, Monaghan, so I’m going to let you in on a little female secret.” He tore his eyes from my breasts and met my gaze. “By the end of a woman’s cycle or period as you don’t like to call it…” he rolled his eyes “…we are horny, as in, there is probably a twenty-four to forty-eight hour gap where you could fuck a woman senseless and she’d still beg for more.” His Adam’s apple bobbed, swallowing that little nugget of information. “Shit! I brought you to my mom’s house during your fuck-me-senseless time.” I shrugged, reaching behind me and unfastening my bra which got tossed over the couch as well. “Rookie mistake, Monaghan. Now … the real question is…” I wet my lips while unfastening his jeans “…what part of my body is going to give you your first orgasm tonight?” ”
“Jesus, Lake …” His breath caught just as I finished pulling down his zipper.
This is becoming my favorite Kindle World. Come along as we see some of the characters that we were introduced to in Robyn's world but meet them as children. Come along and meet some amazing characters and be amazed. If you are fan of either Donna or Robyn's books then you are gonna enjoy this terrific story
Both stories are great even if you haven't read the stories they are based off of. I had read Seraphina's but not Laramie's and enjoyed both stories just the same. I actually had never read a story of Laramine's before but have discovered after reading this I like her writing style. I already knew I loved Seraphina's work. This is a great set of stories so don't miss them
I've read a few Kindle worlds but this is quickly becoming my favorite one. All of the stories I've read so far have been outstanding and fit well in the world. I'm so glad to get to enjoy such wonderful stories
If this is an example of how all the books in this Kindle World are as funny and outstanding as this one then we are all in for a treat. I loved the Boogeyman and was hooked by this story from the very beginning. Come along as Lori does an amazing job of making us laugh and have thrills as we read. I'm so gonna enjoy this Amazeballs world
I knew once I finally got the time to sit down and read this book I was gonna be hooked and I was right. This book will draw you in on page one and keep you hooked till the end. Then leave you wanting book 2 now. I love when I finally get a book I've been saving for a special time to turn out to be a great read. If you love wonderful suspenseful love reads then this is one for you. So glad I don't have to wait on reading book 2 as it is sitting here next to me waiting to be read. This southern charm of this book added to the appeal being a southern girl myself
I should have know from hanging out with this author that I would love her stories but you never know for sure till you read one. First but will not be the last as that was really an interesting story. I loved how the author approached the story and made it feel like everyone reading would be able to relate in some way to it. I am very excited to read her author stories as this was such an interesting story
I think so far this is my favorite story I've read by Cooper McKenzie. It was a wonderful story and quick read. The thing about her books is they are all great hot stories but have life in them so they feel so real to me. So glad I got and read this book. I always enjoy the stories I read of hers
I both read the kindle version and listened to the audio version on this book. This was an amazing conclusion to an awesome series. At times I was almost in tears reading/listening to this book as it was so real to me. I actually started out listening to the audio version but I couldn't wait to finish the story so ending up reading it on my kindle so I could find out what happened. Then I finished listening to it on audio. I love how she ended this series. I was saving this for when I could have both the audio and the kindle version as I started this series on audio and wanted to end it that way. I'm sad that I won't have any more new stories from this amazing group that Susan has created for us but hope to see them again in other stories she writes for us. I'm so glad I was introduced to this authors books as she has quickly become one of my favorites. She is one that writes a story that grabs you on page one and doesn't let you go till your are finished with the last page.
I though book one was hot then I read book 2. Again I'm so glad I took a chance and grabbed that first book. I can tell this won't be the last book I read by this author as her work is just outstanding. It's not like anything you've read but it just what you need to read sometimes
Was gifted this for an honest review. I will be very honest and say I haven't read the whole anthology but hope to get time to go back and read the whole thing at some point. Ok now on to why I wanted to read this anthology. Cassia Leo has a story in here and it is part of a series of her's I've read and adored so of course I needed to read this part of the story. I was not disappointed at all. Cassia is an amazing author and if you haven't read her before just getting a small glimse of her world you get from reading her story should make you want to read the rest of the story. I love reading more of two of my favorite characters I've read one more story now Jaycee Ford's and it was also a wonderful read. I hope to find time to read the rest as I've heard great things of all the authors in this Anthology
